Recession

A lot of business colleagues selling watches are naturally worried about the economic downturn.  I am not so concerned. The truth is that, although some non essential purchases will be affected by a lack of disposable income, people still need to tell the time and watches will continue to sell.  All the brands we sell are selected for a combination of style and quality.  People may well become more discerning in choosing a watch that is well priced, durable and good value for money - brands such as Victorinox, Mondaine, Boccia and Skagen particularly meet those criteria.  So I wont worry.  Life is too short anyway!

Ted Baker

People sometimes ask me how I choose a new brand to put on the site. Some things are obvious such as a watch having a decent quality movement and a well built case. You come to expect a certain minimum standard in a watch these days as you would in a car. But in terms of styling, I look for the quirky or the individual, subtle points of styling that show attention to detail. For those reasons, I decided to stock Ted Baker watches. Rose gold buttons, straps that are patterned on the inside, purple hands, unusual case shapes, patterned dials; many are the ways that these watches have been made to stand out from the crowd.

Victorinox v Tag Heuer

Noticing some similarities, a customer asked what the difference is between the two brands. The same quality but about half the price. Why? Just consider Tag's marketing budget.

The Story of Watches.

How watches have changed over the years.

Years ago there were watch makers and companies and now there are brands.

I love the appeal of an old mechanical watch but a watch is now so much more than a means of telling the time.

It is a piece of jewellery, a statement of personality and affordable enough to be able to have more than one of, depending on mood and occasion.

A lot negative is said about branding but it allows this to happen and makes the world a much more interesting place.
